Hand-Tied flies. Built to be fished.

I’m Ben Zell, the fly tyer behind Ben’s Fly Box. Every fly is hand-tied by me in Georgia and built with one goal: to catch fish. These are patterns I trust on the water myself. Pick your flies, build your box, and get on the water.

Who ties them

Hi — I’m Ben.

Every fly in the shop comes off my own vise — no bulk bins, no overseas trays. Premium hooks, tungsten beads, and patterns I’ve fished and refined myself before they ever go up for sale.

“I’m a college student and lacrosse player who spends most of my free time either on the water or behind the vise. Ben’s Fly Box started with me tying flies for my own boxes and eventually grew into tying them for other anglers too.” @bensflybox

Everything in the shop is a pattern I fish myself, from stocked rivers in Georgia to wild brookies in Montana. If I wouldn’t tie it on, it doesn’t go in the envelope.

At the vise

Three off the jaws this month.

Straight from the bench, in Ben’s own words — each one posted to @bensflybox.

A High-Vis Griffith's Gnat held in vise jaws

High-Vis Griffith’s Gnat

Tiny, buggy, and easy to track when the water gets rough. The bright post helps you keep track of the fly without taking away from the buggy profile trout love. Perfect for those days when fish are keyed in on tiny bugs up top.

A jig-head pink Squirmy Worm held in vise jaws

Jig Pink Squirmy

Squirmy, simple, and almost impossible for trout to ignore. It might not look like much in the vise, but it flat out catches fish — especially after rain, high water, or when the bite gets tough.

A cream Mop Fly with a black thorax held in vise jaws

Mop Fly

Simple, buggy, and absolutely deadly when trout want something they can’t ignore. This light-bodied, dark-thorax version gives off a clean contrast that stands out in the water and gets eaten all season long.

Want it in your colors?

Thread, wire and bead color can all be swapped — and if there’s a pattern you don’t see listed, ask. Tell me the water you’re fishing and roughly what you’re after, and I’ll tell you what I can tie and what it’ll run.
